Consistently Getting 12 likes? Here’s How to Get Engagement

By Intern Sophie D’Errico

The key to getting engagement is to first understand your audience very well and to put yourself in their shoes. Who is your audience? What do they like? What do they want to see from and know about your business? In what format do they wish to see it? Once you know your audience, here is what you can do:

Make your Account Worth Following

Every post should offer real value to your audience and be worth their engagement. Do not simply post content just to have it up. Just because you have followers does not guarantee you likes– you have to earn them.

Consider providing answers to frequently asked questions, sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes content like sneak-peeks at new products, and offering exclusive deals or promotions and giveaways.

When people see your account as a source of useful or entertaining information, they’ll be more inclined to engage with it.

Create Shareable Content

Engagement is not only likes and comments– it also includes shares. When creating a post, ask yourself: Would my audience want to send this to a friend? Whether it's educational, funny, or thought-provoking, your content should serve as a conversation starter. However, in a world of scrolling, your posts should still be simple and easy-to-consume.

Add a Clear Call-to-Action

Incorporate calls-to-action (CTAs) to spark interaction. Ask your audience questions, encourage them to share their thoughts, or use interactive tools like polls, quizzes, and question boxes. Their responses can provide inspiration for future content, such as creating a FAQ post based on questions from followers, or sharing and correcting misconceptions about your business.

Find Key Timing and Consistency

Timing can make or break your post’s reach. Use analytics tools to determine when your audience is most active, and schedule your content accordingly. Or, experiment with different posting schedules to see what works out the best.

Consistency is just as important. Regular posting builds engagement and helps followers know when to expect new content.

Leverage Various Formats

Diversify your content by leveraging the full range of social media formats. Use photos, graphics, short-form video content, and stories. This experimentation you can see what kind of content resonates the most with your audience.

Collaborate with Micro-influencers

Although the audiences of micro-influencers are smaller, they are highly engaged. This makes micro-influencers a more affordable and strategic collaboration. Their authentic connection with niche communities means that there is often the perfect influencer who would resonate with your audience to create sponsored content and promote your business.

Engagement doesn’t happen by chance– it’s the result of thoughtful strategy, creative content, and a deep understanding of your audience.
